11 Most Believed Myths

Pigeons blow up if you feed them uncooked rice. This is a very common myth that many people believe. The fact is birds eat rice grain during the colder months. Plan and simple birds do not blow up when eating rice cooked or uncooked.

The Flu Shot Gives You The Flu. Many people think that the flu shot gives you the flu, but it doesn't. The shot does not have any live viruses in it. So get the shot every fall to prevent the flu or to make sure it's not as bad.

Drinking Alcohol Warms You Up. You see it in the movies and maybe read it in a book but the fact is alcohol doesn't really warm you up. When you drink alcohol your body temperature actually goes down rather than up.

The Five Second Rule. So your eating a cookie and it drops on the floor, you or someone says it's okay to eat if you pick it up within 5 seconds of dropping it. Well research of scientist say no, germs will stick on it from time of contact!

Chicken Soup Can Cure The Common Cold. Mothers all over swear by the Chicken soup but sadly it is false! But wait I have some good news, although it can not 'cure' the common cold research has found that the broth of chicken soup does contains anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce congestion. So even though it doesn't cure the cold it will help!

Warts Can Be Caught By Toads, Or any other animal. Nope sorry that's not true. The human pappiloma virus is what gives humans warts. Animals can not give warts to us whatsoever.

Your Hair Grows Back Thicker & Darker After Shaving. Now even I thought this one was true. It is actually a widely thought myth, your hair may seem like it is growing back thicker and darker but it's not.

You Lose Half Your Body Heat Through Your Head.

No you don't lose 50% of body heat through your head. You lose about the same amount than any other body part. Scientist estimate about 10% rather than 50%. They still say to keep your head and neck covered, since that is usually the place you lose body heat for not having it covered up.

Napoleon Was Short.

I never even heard of that, but I guess it is a hugely believed myth. When measured by the French Napoleon was 5'2, yes that is pretty short. When measured with the Imperial system he is really 5'6 which is the average height for men in his country back then. Another reason people may have assumed he was short was the pictures of him with other soldiers. Well your right he looked tiny, but that is only because most of the soldiers were about 6 foot tall. So in comparison yes he was a bit short, but only to the soldiers. The nickname 'Le Petit Caporal' was given to him because of his friendly nature towards the soldiers.

Chocolate Gives You Acne

Many people always told me if I eat a lot of chocolate I will get acne. Well that is simply not the case. Chocolate does not give you acne. Acne is caused by hormones. If you have a hormonal imbalance or your hormones change, such as a women before her monthly, you will most likely get acne.

HubPages Is Borning.

False! Hubpages is great. You meet a lot of great writers and learn a lot of new things from what they write. It is a great way to make money or just have fun. Or maybe just to write and be able to share it with everyone!
